Time to rest
Doel is a small village of initially 900 people near the Antwerp Harbour and a nuclear power station.
About 10 years ago the flemish government decided to fill the houses with conrete, bury the village under an artificial sand hill and build a new big dock and a container storage area.
Most of the people accepted to sell their houses and moved out. Those abandoned houses are marked with red hearts on the doors now.
Some people keep living there and are fighting for the village survival.
